Before the setting up of the markets there were only the commercial gatherings of the fairs. Until the second half of the 19th century, the hawkers’ gatherings took place in the Terreiro do Paço. Since then the fairs occur in the Largo do Carrascal (Carrascal Square).
These fairs are at the same time places where we can find a most varied commerce and a driving force to the economical and social daily life of this municipality.

- January Fair (last Saturday of the month)
- May Fair (last Saturday of the month)
- August Fair (last Saturday of the month)
Markets:
- Municipal Market of Vila Viçosa (daily)
- Week Market (Wednesdays, in the Carrascal Sqaure)
